Matt’s Story
HIS JOURNEY WITH CIC AND MOTEGRITY
MATT:
Hi, my name is Matt. I live in a valley in the state of Pennsylvania. I work in the criminal justice system as a Director and I take a lot of pride in being an effective leader.
MATT:
In my spare time, I enjoy being active and I can’t get enough of the outdoors. I am a coffee enthusiast, and I brew my own coffee every day.
SUPER:
How did CIC affect you?
MATT:
I began experiencing constipation about a decade ago, in my mid-thirties. It was somewhat mild at first but became worse over time.
MATT: At first, I ignored the constipation and my CIC symptoms and hoped they’d go away. Initially, I put off trying address the issue. Talking about my constipation was difficult, but then the symptoms started really impacting my life.
SUPER:
What was your treatment approach then?
MATT:
I figured I could rectify my constipation by adding more fruit and fiber to my diet, so I started by adding a prune and a grapefruit every day. I lived on a paleo diet for some time.
MATT: Because of my constipation symptoms, I began keeping to myself. It was uncomfortable to talk about for obvious reasons.
MATT: It felt rude showing up to friends’ houses and turning down meals they prepared because I didn’t want to be constipated later.
VOICEOVER AND SUPER:
Before taking Motegrity, tell your healthcare provider (HCP) about all of your medical conditions, including if you:
- have or have had depression, suicidal thoughts or actions, or mood problems
- have kidney problems. Your HCP may give you a lower dose of Motegrity
- are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if Motegrity will harm your unborn baby
- are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Prucalopride can pass into your breastmilk. Talk with your HCP about the best way to feed your baby if you take Motegrity.
Tell your HCP about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

SUPER:
How did you hear about Motegrity (prucalopride)?
MATT:
I accepted that my problem needed medical attention,
MATT: and the diets I was trying weren't adequate for me. So I went to my primary care doctor who diagnosed me with chronic idiopathic constipation, and I also visited several different gastroenterologists. In this process, I was frustrated and continued to struggle with my constipation and CIC symptoms.
MATT: I finally learned about Motegrity from a nurse practitioner I consulted about my CIC. We discussed different treatment options, and she told me about Motegrity.
SUPER:
A treatment option for adults with CIC
MATT:
She said it was a treatment option for adults with CIC and that it may be a treatment option for me.
MATT:
We talked about the benefits and potential risks of Motegrity, including the most common side effects like headache, nausea, dizziness, gas, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, and fatigue.
MATT:
I decided to try Motegrity. Being my own best advocate helped me find a CIC treatment option that works for me.
MATT:
I'm glad I learned about Motegrity—it worked for my CIC. Of course, this is just my experience and others may have different results.
VOICEOVER AND SUPER

MATT: My Motegrity moment was when I noticed an improvement in my constipation within the first 3-5 days of starting Motegrity.
MATT: To help manage my side effects, I worked with my healthcare provider and they became more manageable within a few days. Of course, this is just my experience and others may have a different experience.
SUPER: What would you tell other people about CIC?
MATT: Although I may still struggle with my CIC and accepting that it's a chronic condition, being frustrated with my diagnosis and feeling embarrassed talking about my constipation,

KERRY:
My name is Kerry. I'm originally from Syracuse, New York, and now I reside in Texas, and I'm a nurse.
SUPER: Kerry REAL MOTEGRITY PATIENT
KERRY: Constipation affected my life in so many ways because I was dealing with my symptoms so often. Growing up in a family where you weren't allowed to complain made me so tough, but at the same time, I had nobody to talk to. That was the worst part.
SUPER: Growing up in a family where you weren't allowed to complain made me so tough.
SUPER: How did CIC affect you?
KERRY:
I can think of countless times that I've missed out, because of my constipation, on things that really meant a lot to me, like volunteering at my son's school, his field trips, Halloween. I wish I could've done all those things without missing out on making memories.
SUPER: Missing out on making memories.
SUPER: What was your treatment approach then?
KERRY: Through the years, cycling through different therapies hoping one would work, not knowing if it wouldn't work. It really took a toll on me.
SUPER: It really took a toll on me.
KERRY: There was a moment about eight months ago that I decided, no matter what, I was going to do whatever it took to get to the bottom of my constipation.
SUPER: I was going to do whatever it took.
KERRY: And I called my doctor and I said, "enough is enough." There has to be something out there for me.

SUPER:
What was your experience with Motegrity?
KERRY: Based on my history and my diagnosis, my doctor felt it would be a good treatment option for me. The first day I felt Motegrity work, it was the first time in a long time that I actually felt a sense of completeness after going to the bathroom.
SUPER: I actually felt a sense of completeness after going to the bathroom.
KERRY: With Motegrity, my trips to the bathroom went from one time every three weeks to multiple times a week with a sense of completeness. I feel relief from my CIC, and I'm able to go to the bathroom more often. I spend less time chained to a toilet.
SUPER: What was your Motegrity moment?
KERRY: My moment was about eight months ago. I made the decision on that day that I was going to do whatever it took to get to the bottom of my constipation. I felt empowered that day. That was my Motegrity moment.
SUPER: I was going to do whatever it took.
KERRY: I am thankful that Motegrity has made an impact on my CIC. This is just my experience and others may be different.
SUPER: What would you tell other people with CIC?
KERRY: Knowing what I know now, I wish I had been more persistent with my doctor and asked her about other treatment options.
SUPER: I wish I had been more persistent.
KERRY: I only hope that, speaking about my experiences with CIC, will make more people speak up about theirs. I want to help others feel empowered to speak up and talk to their doctor.

My name is Lauren. I'm a teacher and a school counselor, and I live in California.
SUPER:
Lauren REAL MOTEGRITY PATIENT
LAUREN:
For my entire life, I went to the bathroom like clockwork. It was a daily, very substantial trip to the bathroom. But then with CIC, everything changed.
SUPER:
But then with CIC, everything changed.
SUPER:
How did CIC affect you?
LAUREN:
I hadn't had a bowel movement for two weeks. As soon as I reached out to my gastroenterologist and finally had a chance to see him, I right away shared every single detail of symptoms I was experiencing, because I knew if I didn't, he wouldn't be able to provide the best possible care. I've always been a really social person, but because of my symptoms, I just kind of wanted to be alone and only interacted with people when I had to. My symptoms kept recurring, and it felt like nothing I was trying was helping.
SUPER:
Because of my symptoms I just kind of wanted to be alone.
SUPER:
My symptoms kept recurring.
SUPER:
What does "normal" mean to you?
LAUREN:
For me, feeling normal means a regular, routine daily trip to the bathroom. But because of my CIC, that kind of came to a stop.

SUPER:
How did you hear about Motegrity?
LAUREN:
I first heard about Motegrity from my gastroenterologist. He told me Motegrity works by enhancing movement in the colon, and some of the possible common side effects might be headache or diarrhea.
SUPER:

LAUREN:
So we made a mutual decision that I'd give it a try.

It was different from anything else I had tried. And that was my Motegrity moment.
SUPER:

SUPER:
What was your experience with Motegrity?
LAUREN:
Now when I go to the bathroom, I go in the morning at least three times a week. This is my experience with Motegrity, but for others it might be different. I was able to focus more on things that I love.
SUPER:
I was able to focus more on things that I love.
SUPER:
What would you tell other people with CIC?
LAUREN:
I would tell a patient who's struggling with constipation that he or she is definitely not alone.
SUPER:
He or she is definitely not alone.
LAUREN:
For somebody who's experiencing CIC, I would encourage them to be completely open and honest with their doctor. That is the only way they'll get an accurate diagnosis and begin a treatment plan that is right for them.
SUPER:
